Sugar Plum Fairy Inspired Christmas Look

This particular look took a lot of time to edit in part due to time limitations the original version was like 15 minutes long and Youtube would not accept it so I had to edit out some footage of how I applied glue to my fake lashes, my thoughts on my new bronzer from The Body Shop and an introduction on my new pink brush, Goat from Sasa! I KNOW, Goat brush but seriously that was what it said on the packaging!

Anyway I might be putting all those stuff in a separate clip and uploading it for the future. I actually wanted to just call this make up video shimmery christmas but after putting in my music and watching it again I changed my mind and decided to rename it Sugar Plum Fairy inspired, it fits doesn't it? The shimmery tones and the purple color is exactly what I can imagine any sugar plum fairy adding to her magical appeal! I suppose this would be a case of music inspiring the make up look!

I know you will enjoy my first make up look for Christmas or any other fun festive occasion you would love to attend in style!

Have a wonderful weekend!

UPDATED with some pictures that I took after doing the make up look :)

What to wear for Christmas

It is really early but never too early to plan on what to wear for Christmas or any other formal festive occasion you would love to attend :)

I present to you these sets lovingly crafted with a different woman in mind for each look. Hope it will inspire you on what to wear for this upcoming festive occasion or any other party, cocktail event you would love to attend in style.

The Classic Woman who Loves Bling!

classic look

Christmas is a time to pile on the bling and be adventurous with it. Particularly if you are not crazy on buying a one off party dress for the occasion you can invest in an elegant piece that can take you through any occasion.

The dress featured has a detail on the empire waist to brighten up the black. You can kick up the look a notch with killer heels and quirky accessories. Oh and a nice black clutch to hold all your essentials like lipstick for touch ups would be the finishing touch.

The Mermaid who likes to Party!

what to wear for christmas

You are a daring fashionista and you seriously believe that parties are the best times to amp up your look and be a head turner with brilliant color and vivacious character. This is the look inspired by you for you. A gorgeous M shaped embellished bustier top and a soft flowing chiffon skirt makes this dress an attention grabber.

You secretly think that you are that mermaid who has been transformed into a girl for one night. Carried upon sea waves and encased in jewels from forgotten treasures sunken within the sea she picks up brilliant red shoes molded out of coral and walks towards the party.

The Woman who Likes to make a Statement

statement piece
You are not to be confused with the mermaid who likes to party! Rather than have a head to toe ensemble that trumpets your arrival. You want your outfit to make a statement of who you are. You seldom follow trends and you like pieces that are as unique and special as you make them out to be.

You picked this multi colored dress off the rack at the store and decided you must own it because you think that this swirls of colors must be what travelling through different dimensions must feel like.

BB cream vs. foundation

BB cream has been raved about, talked about endlessly!

I did not see what the hype was all about until I saw even places that usually do not stock Korean imported stuff (in my opinion anyway) like John Little start having BB creams too. I was like what is this? and squeezed some to test on a finger, sniff at it suspiciously and WHAM! I was converted it smelled of flowers!

I am a big fan of perfumes and scent to me is very important from the first sniff I was SOLD! Okay that does not make a very intellectual point of view so now I will state a comparison I made based on my experience in using BB cream and liquid foundation.

The reason why I use BB cream instead of the usual foundations apart from the fact that my first BB cream smelled freaking beautiful better than any liquid foundation I used before is because I find it difficult to find liquid foundations with high SPF.

Some recommended liquid foundations such as the much raved about Revlon Color stay foundation only has 15 SPF in addition most liquid foundations have a very fluid texture which makes it less messy to apply with sponges or brushes rather than finger tips.

BB cream on the other hand tends to be very thick and more creamy rather than liquid. Most BB creams are also made of botanical ingredients hence it has more healing properties than liquid foundations. The Welcos BB cream for example has Lotus Blossom extract in it others such as Skinfood BB cream has mushroom extracts.

Liquid foundation is not generally touted as having any healing properties while BB cream provides healing properties to sooth tired skin and provides good coverage as well.

Having said that BB cream is still considered a make up product so however tempted one feels to leave it on and sleep with the cream applied to the face it is advisable to wash it off with a make up remover. Textures and consistencies of the BB cream will vary so if you want thicker coverage pick a BB cream with a thick and creamy consistency if you want something more light for lighter coverage pick a more liquid texture.

Just keep testing varieties of BB cream and you will be sure to find the right one for yourself :)

Good luck!

For Welcos product information click here to purchase your own BB cream you can visit ebay or an online shop. If you are in Singapore you can purchase from Jowa at Novena Square. For other types of BB cream you can visit Sasa, Watsons, John Little for your BB cream fix. Alternatively you may join sprees for places to purchase the BB cream of your choice.

What to wear for all types of interviews #3

I continue with my what to wear for interview series. If you missed the first two parts in the series you may click here and here.

This look will be for a executive in a corporate work environment but with the use of softer fabrics as opposed to the normal blazer and pant suit routine which looks very sharp and polished. However it has been done before and I would like to bring something new to the table.

Pair the white shirt with pants for a sharp and tailored look but for my case I wanted to soften the look so I went with a sheer chiffon black skirt.

I threw on a blazer over the look to kick it up a notch.
Structured on top soft and flowing at the bottom.

I have accessorized with a black bag with some detail to give the look some point of interest you may also add a simple chain necklace.

Alternatively you could also put on a black cardigan to soften up the look even more.

Pair this look with stylish heels and you are good to go :)

Shimmer Peep Toe pump from F21

Strappy platform Sandal from F21

I love these they are less demure than the Shimmer Peep Toes and the red at the soles remind me of Lomboutins.

Charles and Keith also has a pretty good selection of work shoes.

Do check them out and I wish you the best of luck for your next interview :)

Myths and legands of cosmetics BUSTED!

There are all kinds of myths and legends about cosmetics. Take for example that claim that lipsticks contained lead which could cause cancer.

According to ABC news article there is no cause for concern as the level of lead found in the lipsticks are too low to cause any serious harm.

I will attempt to address a few more myths and legends to do with cosmetics particularly in the field of skincare.

#1 Myth: Can you trust the SPF levels written on sunscreens?

Here are some well known brands that have not been giving the SPF protection that was stated on the label. You would be surprised.

Check this out

#2 Myth: As long as I follow a skincare regime strictly, I can still go and party and have late nights. I will still have great looking skin. Right?

I am sorry party babes I wish I could say YES to this but dermatologist state that 80% of the skin is made up of the dermal layer, which sits below the surface of your skin.

In other words the most important step to care for your skin is to treat it internally, through proper nutrition, taking supplements and having enough sleep. That means leaving the party earlier to get fab skin! And to risk sounding like your mom yes, cut back on those drinks too.

Remember no matter how much cash you spend on your skin only 20% of these external treatments will go towards a healthier complexion.

#3 Myth: I have dry skin the best way to keep it hydrated is to wash my face with water frequently.

Well, the answer no. Splashing water repeatedly on your face can cause your face to lose its natural essential oils, yes your skin produces essential oils too. So with less of this oils you will be making your skin even more dry.

Steer clear of harsh cleansers too basically those that make your skin feel real squeaky clean and tight this is a sign that the cleanser you use is way to strong for you. And that squeaky clean feeling you feel is how skin feels when its been stripped of essential oils, go for mild cleansers instead with botanical extracts like grape seed that have antioxidant properties.

It is best to invest in a good moisturizer that will help to retain hydration in the skin for longer. Give yourself time to find the correct moisturizer for your skin, the thicker the moisturizer the more hydration it will give your skin. For optimum results apply moisturizer after a shower as it will help your skin to retain the moisture for longer.

#4 Myth: I have oily skin hence I should stay clear of moisturizers as it will make my skin worse.

Well you may be surprised to hear that experts say the opposite. While the nature of your skin makes it easier to retain moisture however it will not replace moisture that you lose throughout the day. Basically oil and moisture are two different things.

You can use a moisturizer that is light and not too heavy additional bonus if it has SPF and oil controlling properties. Look out for ingredients like glycolic acid or salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) in your products. These will help you retain moisture in your skin and reduce production of sebum thus giving your skin better oil control.

However as not everyone has the exact same type of oily skin this advice will be able to help people with milder levels for oily skin types. For more severe cases topical applications of Retin A can help reduce oil production in the skin.

For people who want a more drastic approach laser treatments may be considered. It is important to consult a dermatologist to assess your skin condition before embarking on any such drastic measures.

#5 Legand: Vampires have beautiful skin because they drink blood too bad it will not work for normal humans.

Haha surprisingly injecting one's own blood plus vitamins and amino acids are just the ticket to getting vampire-esque beautiful skin :) According to Dr David Sister it stimulates DNA repair, heals scars and makes dry, wizened, wrinkled and lacklustre skin look and feel younger naturally, without the need for synthetic fillers or harsh and painful lasers or peels.

Sounds good click on the sources link to read more!
